About MTNW
MTNW toolbox

The MTNW Toolbox MTNW offers a collection of tools that support a people-centered, realistic approach to Community Technology.

We have proposed an optimal planning process or "route map" that can be applied in any of the 5 typical situations in which Community Technology is used and featured in our 'help for' section: centres, organisations, projects, networks, and whole communities. These tools are designed to support that process. However, we know that real-life rarely conforms to a multi-step flowchart - from start to finish. So, we encourage you to use these tools in a mix-and-match fashion - based on your current needs and capacity.

Note: This toolbox will be constantly evolving. We have not presented every tool for every situation. We want to give you a sense of the MTNW approach to Community Technology and examples of the kinds of support tools we can customise for your situation. Below the tools are catalogued as articles, lists etc. You can also find them catgegorised in relations to 'help for' and key topics here.

Checklists to Scan.
It’s never possible to be 100% thorough, but it is important to know "what you should be doing" - if you had unlimited time and resources. Here are some checklists you can use to audit your community - or just scan if that’s all you have time for.

Terry’s Lists. MTNW team member Terry Grunwald often uses lists to organise her presentations.. 13 "T" Barriers. 10 Guidelines for Web Design, etc. We are collecting them in one place. Terry has been actively engaged with nonprofit networking and community technology since 1990.

Reality Checks.
People like to hype their successes. We like to share what does work - and what doesn’t. We are developing a collection of Reality Checks that offer you the benefit of "on the ground" experience of some of the Community Technology pioneers.

Articles.
Here is a selection of articles that gives you the MTNW perspective on a variety of community technology issues. They generally revolve around the theme: "It’s Not about the Technology, Stupid."

PowerPoints you can Use.
These presentation aids can help you build awareness of the value of ITC for various audiences. They can also be used as part of a "train the trainers" curriculum. We encourage you to customize them for your own situation. Find our presentations here.

Links. We are collecting a set of annotated links - clustered by various topics and based on we think are the ‘best of the web". Links are very dynamic and are constantly changing. Be prepared. A few of these will no longer work, but most probably will. More here
