Finding volunteers and help
We developed this comprehensive list to help rural areas think creatively about ways they may tap existing contacts, projects, and other resources in their areas. We have found that often there are resources available in a community that are not widely known — or there may be opportunities for collaboration that are not taken advantage of because various entities are not in communication.

For example, a Community Development Corporation hosted a meeting for local groups interested in technology, the participants were generally not aware that the l also had a public access site, but it was poorly publicized and not clearly marked. Another group had plans to develop public access, but needed technical assistance and no one knew of their plans. By using this checklist, communities can scan the technology landscape in their regions — identifying new services, determining where there are duplications and opportunities for collaboration or shared resources, and locating gaps in services.
