Networking
Although
technology can seem the big challenge in any online
initiative, it is usually relationships with people and the
resulting partnerships which make for success - or failure.
Networking
is the process of finding key people and building a useful
relationship with them. They may include:
- Other
enthusiasts for your vision who will act as champions and
may help drive projects forward.
- Volunteers
who will work on projects.
- Technical
specialists.
- People
in agencies who may assist through funding, help in kind
or endorsement.
- 'Early
adopters' among users who will give you feedback on what
works and what doesn't.
A
lot of networking consists of meeting people informally, wherever
is most comfortable for them. However, there are some tools
which may help in the more formal follow-ups.
Tools
Offer
hands-on demonstrations and make presentations.
Run
workshops where people
can think through issues together.
