MTNW Services

The principals in Making the Net Work team live in different countries and have complementary skills. That helps us appreciate the realities of making virtual teams and online communities work in practice! More below on how we can:

  • Provide content for books and web sites
  • Help you design online communities and local networks
  • Run workshops face to face or online
  • Advise your organisation on using new technologies

Terry Grunwald live in Raleigh, North Carolina, US; David Wilcox in London, UK; Drew Mackie in Edinburgh, Scotland. More about us here.

We each have our own consulting practices, and work on a range of different projects. Here's how we have worked together in recent years - and ideas on what we might offer you.

Our projects

Terry and David have developed this site and also created the online Guide to Getting Communities Connected for Learning and Teaching Scotland.

Both sites draw heavily on Terry's work in the US, particularly with the NCexChange project and consulting work in Texas and the rural south. Terry loves providing practical 'how to' guidance and helping community-based organisations integrate technology into their day to day operations. She also works in telecommunications policy.

Drew and David have worked together for 20 years on programmes for community participation and partnership development. You'll find the full text of a couple of David's books here on our sister site Partnerships Online.

Drew specialises in games, simulations and workshop scenarios. He has worked with David and Terry to develop a set of games to help develop online centres and networks. Here's a taster of the games together with an eight step development process.

Recently we have all worked on a major programme to support the development of local online centres in the UK as part of the DirectSupport consortium.

Our services

We can work with you online or face to face. We can call upon our associates for additional technical services. We prefer to discuss your needs and develop a tailored project proposal.... but here's some ideas. We can:

  • Help you develop a publication or web site about the use of new technologies for communities and nonprofit organisations.

  • Agree terms under which you to can some of the materials we have already developed.

  • Create a package of practical tools you can use to develop a network or programmes. See our toolbox for examples of what we do.

  • Design and run events using some of our games, or other workshop techniques.

  • Work with your organisation to design systems which start with the needs of those you serve.

We would like to hear you - just send us an email and you'll get a reply from one of us.
